Reconstructive surgery on a burns patient presents a challenge to burns surgeons. The variety of issues and the timing of surgery can be a daunting task. Dr. Gahankari is the only Plastic Surgeon attached to the Royal Brisbane Hospital Adults Burns Unit. He also treats burns in his private practice on the gold coast. They are normally referred from Emergency departments of private/public hospitals or GPs.

Specialised Burns management
Dr. Gahankari also performs restorative surgery as a result of "healed" burns to improve scarring or function in an old burn injury. Severe scarring, resulting in contractures or interfering with mobility of the limbs from previous injuries and scarring and deformity of the face.These procedures may involve highly specialised wound management and dressing techniques, through to skin grafting or flap surgery. Old burns scars can often be unattractive, and can limit movement. These problems may require management techniques or surgery to correct. Dr Gahankari can advise you on all aspects of burns treatment and scar management.
Burns Unit
Dr. Dilip Gahankari is a honorary visiting medical officer to the “The Professor Stuart Pegg Adult Burns Unit” which is the only multidisciplinary major referral center for Queensland, Northern New South Wales, Northern Territory and the Pacific Islands. Dr. Gahankari has been involved with this team since 2000 and was also part of the surgical team that has treated major emergencies such as victims of Bali bombings.
