Inverted Nipples
Inverted nipples are a common problem. Inverted nipples are usually due to their mal-development, but occasionally they may be caused after breast reduction procedure. They can interfere with the breast feeding and also be a source of persistent infection and emotional distress.
The techniques for correction of inverted nipples depend on the severity of the condition. Dr Gahankari will assess your case during the consultation and will choose the technique to suit you. If your case is less severe, correction may be achievable without the division of milk ducts thereby reducing the chance of interference with breast feeding. In more severe cases however, division of the milk ducts may be the only way of correcting the problem. Dr Gahankari will discuss this in detail with you prior to surgery.
In most cases, Medicare rebate may be available for this procedure and your GP’s referral would be beneficial.
