ProFractional™ Laser Resurfacing
Fractional skin resurfacing was introduced with CO2 laser. Profractional laser by Sciton utilizes Erbium rather than CO2. Erbium is the most widely used resurfacing laser today as it does the job as effectively as CO2 but with fewer side effects. Because of this it is fondly called as a ‘cool laser’! Profractional technique uses a sophisticated computerized scanner to penetrate skin at precise depth through about 25-30% skin area in multiple spots creating micro-columns of vaporized skin tissue.
The deeper collagen damage is what that causes skin tightening and because the intervening skin is intact, healing is quick requiring very little down time. Profractional is particularly effective in treating acne scars, however the procedure can also make a significant improvement in wrinkles, keratoses and pigmentation problems.
It is often combined with other resurfacing techniques such as micro-laser peel to get a smooth uniform effect.
A Medicare rebate may be claimed for ProFractional erbium laser resurfacing of the face or neck for severely disfiguring scarring resulting from trauma, burns or acne.
