Scar Revision
Scar Revision is the surgical treatment to improve the appearance of scar. Scar is a result of healing of a wound with a complex biological process that stretches over few weeks to few months or even years. Most common complaints are about the scars which are prominent, unsightly, itchy, lumpy or occasionally, causing discomfort because of stretching. Plastic Surgery offers a range of treatments to even improve old scars, burn scars etc.
Not all scars need surgical correction. In fact, only a few scars need surgery. There are many non-surgical options such as silicon sheeting, specific scar ointments and occasionally steroid injections may be attempted first. At Advanced Aesthetix, Dr Dilip Gahankari also uses the special Er:YAG laser for improving the scars.
If surgery is indicated, it may involve modifying the scar or narrowing the original scar simply re-organising it to suit the natural skin creases. Some times, initial surgery is followed by the laser treatment to improve the surgical results. One of the documented risks of the scar revision procedure is the recurrence of the lumpy or itchy scar that cannot be certainly predicted. One of the most important precautions after scar revision procedure is to protect it from direct Sun exposure for at least 3-6 months following the surgery.
Dermatix® is a revolutionary approach to the treatment of scars. It has long been recognized that the occlusion of recent or angry scars hastens the maturation and flattening of the area. It is also known that massage of creams into a scar facilitates the process.

It has been proven to flatten and soften scars, and to remove the itch and redness associated with them. It is easily applied and with repeated use, has been shown to improve scars most effectively.
